About

Hi! And welcome to my personal blog.

My name is Alexander Batishchev, or simply Alex. I’m a software engineer, primarily focused on .NET and primarily writing in C#.

I was born in Moscow, Russia and lived there for near 26 years.

In February 2008, when I was 22, I’ve graduated from Moscow State Institute of Radio-Engineering, Electronics and Automation (MIREA). There I started learning and felt in love with C# and .NET, it was version 1.0 of the language, the framework, and the platform.

In October 2012 I’ve moved to Bellevue, the State of Washington, United States of America to work as a software development engineer at Microsoft Corp on a contract (so called “vendor”).

As of April 2013 we – me, my wife Kristina and our son Michael – live in Redmond, WA.

From July 2013 to June 2014 I worked at Microsoft Open Technologies as an infrastructure and build engineer.

For a while I was a software developer at WideOrbit, a mid-size company from San Francisco, CA. I worked in the office in Lynnwood, WA. I’ve driven in total more than 10.000 miles between home and work during that time.

In April 2015 we’ve moved to Sammamish, WA.

Since June 2015 I’m working full-time at Microsoft as a software engineer 2, MPSIT (Marketing and Partner Services), Partner Incentives Expirience (PIE). My job was to split a monolithic web application hosted on-premises into micro/web-services in Azure and maintain them.

In May 2016 our daughter Chloe was born.

In June 2016 a re-org has happened and my team has joined UST (Universal Store Team) in WDG (Window Development Group) aka OSG (Operating Systems Group). Our product has emerged into UPP (Universal Payout Platform). My job was primarily focused on developing the web services layer of the Calculation Engine, making it a platform for the micro-services built on top of it. I’ve created the engine’s core, also owned the build, deployment, and package distribution subsystems.

In February 2018 I’ve joined the Identity Platform team in the Microsoft Identity organization which is responsible for Azure Active Directory.

In April 2018 we’ve bought our own house in. Carnation, WA.

In February 2019 I was promoted to Senior Software Engineer.

In February 2020 I’ve left the Platform team in Identity and joined the Azure Device Update (ADU) team in EDS. I’ll be working on an Azure Resource Provider and Service Fabric infrastructure for the product officially known as Device Update for IoT Hub.

In October 2021 I’ve left ADU and joined the Common Building Blocks (A/CBB) team in Azure. I’ll be working on an Azure Resource Provider and Service Fabric infrastructure for the product called Azure Throttling Solutions (ATS). Which starting early 2023 will be known as Microsoft Throttling Solutions (MTS), the name I personally like less.

Thanks for reading!
Alex

How Can I be smart like you?

      Hey Patrick,
If I was really smart – I’d be already rich and won’t type it here. But here we are 🙂
I’d happy to help if you have any questions about .NET, Azure, cloud infra, auth, and other things like that.

Sorry I wasn’t very specific, actually I did it on purpose but anyways. I am 18 years old from Brazil and my goal is to be a programmer, I started with python but then switched to JavaScript and I’ve been doing some back-end projects with node.js for some months now… The problem is that I can’t find jobs, I mean, I do find junior positions jobs but I almost never get a response back.

I like more the back-end rather than the front-end and I know that javascript isn’t the ideal language, I tried using java but I don’t really like the OOP paradigm and it was too hard for me. I would say that I prefer to create complex systems with basic functionality rather than create complex systems by understand other people’s abstractions. Also I use typescript but I have plans on using Go in the future, I feel like the more I learn the more I want a lower level language but anyways… What would you recommend me to do? Am I in the right path? I also have my portfolio website attached to my username and I would appreciate if you give a feedback.

Hi Patrick, WP is a bogus platform. I’m using it mostly because I’m lazy to migrate to something better. For instance, it doesn’t let me to reply to your comment, it simply doesn’t render the textbox. So I’m responding over email, hoping it’ll post it as a comment. Do you mind to email me instead? abatishchev gmail com.
